Where and How much Insualtion?

by sub on March 15, 2009

How much insulation is needed in a home, and where should it be installed?  Local building codes for your area can tell you where to install the insulation, as well as, how much to install. At a minimum, insulation is placed in the floor of an unfinished attic, in the exterior walls and in the wall between the garage and the living space. It is important to remember to enclose the entire building envelope. If one area is left exposed air can intrude on your heated/cooled living space thus affecting your energy bills. (Picture a cooler with a big hole in the side or top). Consult your local builder or insulation provider for more specifics on required insulation locations and proper amounts.
